Ngaanyatkarra Regional ArtsNgaanyatjarra Regional Arts is the peak arts agency for the Ngaanyatjarra Lands. Located in the remote Eastern Goldfields region of Western Australia, Ngaanyatjarra Regional Arts is a partnership between the Ngaanyatjarra Council and the Shire of Ngaanyatjarraku with support from the Regional Arts Fund and DCITA’s National Art and Craft Support Scheme (NACISS).

Ngaanyatjarra Regional Arts facilitates arts development by assisting new arts initiatives, coordinating arts projects, supporting cultural maintenance and continuity and arts enterprise development for communities in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands.
The Ngaanyatjarra Lands encompass some 18,585,575 hectares spanning the Great Victoria, Gibson and Great Sandy Deserts of Western Australia, bordering South Australia and the Northern Territory and sweeping in an arc over a distance of around 1000 kilometres.

For the 2500 Indigenous residents of the Ngaanyatjarra Lands, traditionally oriented cultural activities are still a key feature of every day life. The majority of people speak Ngaanyatjarra as their first language; others are speakers of closely related Western Desert dialects including Ngaatjatjarra, Pitjantjatjara and Pintupi.

The Regional Arts Development Officer (RADO) position is a capacity building position, linking people with agencies and support groups to enable arts activities to flourish. The outcomes are broad and include fine art, music, youth arts, audience development, community/public art projects, and advocacy.

The Regional Arts Development Officer facilitates development of arts activities within the Ngaanyatjarra lands that are under-resourced. These culturally diverse and geographically isolated communities have extremely limited opportunities for professional and skills development and are located in a challenging enterprise growth environment.

The Regional Arts Development Officer coordinates arts development in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands by linking the existing arts activities and developing and fostering new activities across the region. This will sustain existing arts activities and form a regional arts community and a regional identity. The project involves the twelve communities of the Ngaanyatjarra Lands, which are Blackstone, Cosmo Newberry, Jameson, Kanpa, Patjarr, Tjirrkarli, Tjukurla, Wannan, Warakurna, Warburton, Wingellina/Irrunytju, and Kiwirrkurra. Ten communities are within the Shire of Ngaanyatjarraku with Kiwirrkurra and Cosmo Newberry in the Shire of East Pilbara and the Shire of Laverton respectively.
