Tjulyuru Regional Arts Gallery
Opened in October 2000, the gallery is not just an exhibition and performance venue – it aims to be the regional centre for Ngaanyatjarra culture. It is a new period in a program that has evolved from the establishment of the Warburton Arts Project in 1990. Tentative Tjulyuru Gallerypaintings in acrylic were followed by confident works, also rock art projects, artglass, sound recordings and festival production. Central to the project has been the documentation and acquisition of a representative collection of this material. This is the most substantial collection of Aboriginal art in the country under the direct ownership and control of Aboriginal people.
The Warburton Collection has toured globally. Predicated on cultural maintenance, the Project is recognised for programmes which are developed with respect to community values, gender and generational protocols and economic viability.
The Tjulyuru Regional Arts Gallery welcomes visitors with an exhibition programme based on the lifestyles, histories and vibrant stories of the Ngaanyatjarra.
