Ngaanyatjarra Air

Ngaanyatjarra Air Ngaanyatjarra Air

Ngaanyatjarra Air was established in 1982 to provide safe, quick, affordable and efficient air transport for passengers, freight and mail services for Ngaanyatjarra people.

Ngaanyatjarra Air has contracted Missionary Aviation Fellowship (MAF) to provide the operational and management expertise necessary to operate a remote area air service.

Ngaanyatjarra Air Service now provides regular air links between all 11 Ngaanyatjarra Communities, Alice Springs and Kalgoorlie, and provides other charter flights when requested.

CORPORATE STRUCTURE OF NGAANYATJARRA AIR

Ngaanyatjarra Air is and Aboriginal owned and controlled Unit Trust which is completely self-funding and which allocates annual surpluses to the community Unit Holders.

The Trustee of Ngaanyatjarra Air is Ngaanyatjarra Air Pty Ltd, and the Unit Holders are the communities. Unit holdings vary for each community.

CHARTERS

If your flight requirements do not fit within the limitations of the regular mail flights, it is possible to book a charter, which allows you to choose (within legal flight limits) when and where the aircraft will go. Charters can be used to undertake special trips, eg community meetings, interview, education, personnel movements, emergency flights. The charging for such charters is worked out on an hourly rate.
To arrange charter flights you must telephone the Alice Springs office on 08 8953 5000 and ask for 'Charters'.

PASSENGER PICK-UPS

If you are catching the aircraft from Alice Springs, you can be picked up from your place of accommodation within Alice Springs between 6.00-6.30am, or if you are making your own way to the airport, be there at 6.45am. If you are coming from the Communities to Alice Springs, you can be delivered to your selected accommodation in Alice Springs.

If you are catching the aircraft from Kalgoorlie, you will need to make your own way to the airport to be there before 7 am WST.

PASSENGER BAGGAGE

Each passenger is entitled to 20kg of baggage before excess baggage charges are levied. Because there are space limitations in the aircraft, we need to be made aware of any large amount or size of baggage. If you do not notify us of large or excessive amount of baggage at the time of booking, we may not be able to carry the excess on the day you travel. Please mention such items as swags, dogs, strollers, wheelchairs etc. when making your booking.

BOOKINGS

Bookings should be made directly to our Airline office. It is advisable to do this in consultation with the Community Development Advisor at your community.

Book Early

Try to make your booking as soon as you know your travel arrangements. Be warned that flights are often booked up two weeks prior to the date of the flight, so the best idea is to book early. If you are paying cash for the flight, it is a requirement to arrange for the payment to be made to our office well prior to the flight or the booking cannot be confirmed and may be "bumped" for a paying passenger.

When you make bookings, please advise our office if you have onward bookings, or are coming off another aircraft in the case of our flights from Kalgoorlie. We can then alter aircraft/routes to ensure that all passengers do travel. We do not usually recommend that people plan onward booking on the day of travel. We often arrive late at Alice Springs or Kalgoorlie. If you need to make connections on the same day, please discuss the options well in advance with our Flight Co-ordinator, so that he can make a note of this. We cannot guarantee arrival times.

Office hours 8.00am - 4.30CST

When you phone/fax in your passenger bookings, you must give these details, in the following order:

  • Date of departure.
  • Departure point.
  • Name of destination.
  • Name of adult or child, and age of child.
  • Payment details, including if pax is eligible for community concession, and any order number/travel warrant or account to charge.
  • Telephone number of the person making the booking (most important).
  • If leaving from Alice, we will need your accommodation address and room number, so that we can arrange for our traffic officer to pick you up on the day of travel.

The telephone numbers of the Air Service Office:

General (08) 8953 5000
Bookings Direct (08) 8953 5271

The facsimile number:

For Accounts (08) 8953 4410
For Bookings (08) 8953 5060

If there are any last minute changes which would affect the next day's flight only. Please leave a message on the answering machine. The message will be accessed and actioned at 8.30pm CST.

PASSENGER COMFORT

Because of the vast distances involved (eg Alice Springs - Warburton is equivalent to Sydney- Brisbane), you may expect that most flights will be at least a couple of hours long. Because we are servicing a number of communities, you can also expect a number of intermediate landings. During the warmer months of the year, conditions can be somewhat uncomfortable, and we strongly recommend that you carry a container of water to avoid dehydration and that you pass on such advice to others from your community. All passengers should attend to toilet matters before their flight as there are no on-board toilet facilities.

NO-SHOWS

The Air Service has a very definite policy- ratified by the Ngaanyatjarra Council - on late cancellations and no-shows. This has been required to maintain viability of the Airline due to the large number of people who either forget to cancel flights or do not show.

For a "no show" at an airstrip or place of accommodation in Alice Springs, a full fare will be charged.

For cancellation on the day of travel, a 50% cancellation fee will be charged.
for cancellation by phone before 8.30pm CST on the day prior to the day of travel, NO fee will be charged.

This policy is in line with other third level airline operators.

If your travel plans change, please cancel or re-book as early as possible, both for your sake and to allow Ngaanyatjarra Air to carry other passenger on that particular day.

WAIT LISTING

If at the time of booking no seats are available, you may wish to book on a wait-listed basis and leave a contact phone number with us so that if there is a cancellation, you will have first option on the flight. This does not mean a standby or discounted fare applies.
